Victim: Cynthia Joan Smith

Cynthia Joan Smith Cynthia Joan Smith, born October 6, 1967, enrolled in the Syracuse University College of Human Development because she wanted to be a fashion designer. She participated in the DIPA program in London to learn more about European fashion. She also enjoyed personal market research — she loved to shop! For her 21st birthday in October 1988 her family put money in her account and told her to "buy something fun in Paris." She was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority.

Cindy also loved helping people. In high school she worked with other students to help them with problems such as drinking, drug use, and pregnancy. She also worked on a weekly cable television program that focused on the same issues.

Cindy was returning home to her family in Milton, Massachusetts. She was survived by her parents, Joan and Edward C. Smith, her brother and sister.
