Victims: Hernán Luis Caffarone and Fabiana Benvenuto de Caffarone
Hernán Luis Caffarone was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The elder son of Graciela and Luis Caffarone, he was survived by his parents and his brother Ricardo. Hernán studied at St. Andrew's Scots School where he obtained a bilingual high school degree. He then studied economics at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He was also a great sportsman and played on Argentina's Junior National Rugby team. He worked for Ambito Financiero, an economic and financial journal and became a financial consultant at Citicorp Investment Group for multinational companies. He was then hired by NMB Bank, now ING Group, as leading broker-dealer in Argentine external bonds.
Fabiana Benvenuto de Caffarone was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, the third of four children. She graduated from the National University of Rosario with a degree in psychology. She loved sports including windsurfing, tennis and skiing. She also loved photography and studying languages.
Hernán and Fabiana met in Sugarbush, Vermont where Fabiana worked as a ski instructor. They were married on December 19, 1987 and seven months later moved to London when Hernán was offered a job. Fabiana was hired as a teaching assistant at Brunel University where she completed her Master's degree in Industrial Psychology. They were traveling home for the holidays to Argentina via New York.
